Writer: American Melanoma InstituteAmerican Melanoma Institute

There are a variety of immunotherapy options for different skin cancers. The most common immunotherapy for skin cancer is topical immunotherapy. This is where a cream or lotion is applied to the skin to stimulate the body's immune system to fight the cancer. Other immunotherapy options include:

-Intravesical immunotherapy: This is where a drug is injected directly into the bladder to treat cancer that has spread to the bladder.

-Systemic immunotherapy: This is where a drug is taken by mouth or injected into a vein to treat cancer that has spread throughout the body.

-Biological therapy: This is a type of immunotherapy that uses substances made from living organisms to treat cancer.

There are a number of different immunotherapy drugs available to treat skin cancer. Some of the most common immunotherapy drugs used to treat skin cancer include:

-Interferon: This is a drug that helps the body's immune system fight cancer.

-Cancer vaccines: These are drugs that help the body's immune system to recognize and fight cancer cells.

-Tumor necrosis factor (TNF): This is a drug that helps the body's immune system to kill cancer cells.

-Monoclonal antibodies: These are drugs that help the body's immune system to attack cancer cells.

Each type of immunotherapy drug works differently and may be more or less effective for different people. It is important to talk to your doctor to find out which immunotherapy drug is best for you.
